Job posting – Pastor Children, Youth and Family Ministry

St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church Leaside requires a Pastor for our Children, Youth and Family Ministry (Pastor CYFM).  This is a part-time position at approximately 20 hours per week.   The Salary is $ 26,000 per annum approximately.

This is a ministry position and the Pastor CYFM’s role is to nurture children, youth and their families in their spiritual life by supporting their growth in knowledge and experience of the reality and goodness of God in our community of faith, in their lives outside the community and in the broader world.

Position Description

This position (Pastor) reports to the Incumbent and is responsible for the growth of the Children, Youth and Family Ministry (CYFM) at St. Cuthbert’s in terms of both numbers and faith.  In addition, the Pastor will guide, support and work with our ChurchKids volunteer leadership team (the “Team”).

The key areas of focus include:

  • Mission focus to grow our CYFM through going out into the community and attraction of children, youth and families and volunteers.
  • Learning and Christian Formation
  • Worship
  • Planning Communications and Administration

Growth – Mission Focus and Attraction

  • Research and prepare a plan on where to focus our CYFM mission efforts in the community.
  • Strategize with St. Cuthbert’s Committee on Mission on CYFM focus activities for balance of 2018 and 2019 and beyond.
  • Present a positive attractive image and environment to children, youth and families and to all Parishioners.
  • Advocate for their CYFM participation in parish outreach initiatives.

 Learning and Christian Formation

  • With a focus on Christian formation and discipleship ensure that children, youth and families at St. Cuthbert’s are introduced to the teachings of Jesus Christ in a safe, welcoming and empowering environment.
  • Encourage and empower more adult volunteer participation in teaching and shepherding (assisting) in the Nursery, ChurchKids and youth programs.
  • Develop and action a communications plan to connect with parents using all media and strengthen the sense of community within the parish family.
  • Support the discernment of meaningful ways for children and youth to connect their faith with the world around them. Adopt a leadership role in baptism and confirmation preparation.
  • In consultation with the Incumbent and the Team review our present Worship calendar and plan CYFM activities and events throughout the year to support and enrich the Sunday experience. (For e.g. Family Advent event on the Saturday before Advent 1,  Christmas Pageant, Pancake Tuesday event, Good Friday, Pentecost Fair, etc.)

 Worship 

  • In consultation with the Incumbent and the Team, facilitate the active participation of children and youth in the worship life of the parish; including regular Sundays and special events.
  • Work with the Director of Music to include a Children’s Music Ministry within the regular service schedule.
  • Work with the Team and other parish volunteers to plan, organize and lead all aspects of our one week Vacation Bible School (VBS). This includes recruiting, program selection, staffing, budgeting and facilities.

Planning, Communication and Administration

  • Undertake the necessary planning, communication and administrative tasks to support the Team. In consultation with the Incumbent, the Parish Administrator and the Team, coordinate and facilitate the effective running, growth and development of St. Cuthbert’s programs for children registered in the Nursery, ChurchKids and Youth Group.  For example:
  • Provide CYFM input to annual budget.
  • Meet regularly with the Incumbent as mutually agreed;
  • Submit monthly reports for the Advisory Board meetings
  • Submit articles for “What’s On” and “The Link”
  • Track and benchmark our CYFM progress on important metrics.
  • With input from the Team, draft a 3-year Plan for CFYM at St. Cuthbert’s for presentation to the Advisory Board by October 2018.
